Editor's Note

Welcome to the Mid-May issue of Strategies for Career Success.  It's already the middle of May. Summer will be here before we know it! Two weeks ago I went to the "Art in Bloom" event at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Florists made arrangements to resemble different paintings throughout the institute. It was incredible to see the different interpretations!

This issue of Strategies for Career Success includes an article with tips for career success. Also, don't miss the opportunity to get free copies of your resume and free business cards at Staples through June 13. See below for more information.

If you live in the Twin Cities or Western Wisconsin, don't miss "Your Two-Minute Pitch: The Keystone of Your Job Search" at the Career Transition Connection at Woodbury Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 28 at 7 p.m. It's free! Learn how to craft an effective elevator speech to use in interviews and networking situations.

Check out my blog for information on high-paying stimulus jobs. For more career & leadership tips, you can follow me on Twitter.

Enjoy!

Tips for Career Success

I recently read an article on how executives can increase their career success. The tips apply to individuals at all levels, whether you're just starting out in your career or on your way up.

Executive search consultants credit a combination of networking and professional development as the most effective methods for getting attention and as key factors to executive success. They suggest executives:

- Routinely build network outside company with business/industry/trade contacts
- Actively develop leadership skills
- Increase visibility/participation with industry groups
- Continue to expand functional/technical expertise
- Routinely network inside company to raise visibility

If you're interested in moving up in your career or simply retaining your job, incorporate the above tips into your career management plan.

Special Offer - Leadership Coaching

Are You or Is Someone In Your Life a Newly Appointed or Struggling Seasoned Leader?

For the month of May, I am offering $50 off a single session of leadership coaching or $150 off any package. The people I work with are able to gain clarity and focus to help them achieve greater career satisfaction. Here’s what one of my clients had to say:

“Through my work with Joan, I’ve created a leadership development action plan and have more significant progress in three key areas: communication, time management, and delegation. I’m learning the tools necessary to be the best leader I can be, and as a result, I’m much more confident in my role as CFO.”                                                          – Kim K.

I am also able to help people who.....
-
are having trouble finding a job.
- want to find a more satisfying career.
- have been downsized.
- want to position themselves for advancement.
- want to recession-proof their career.
- value the expertise and support of a coach to help achieve their goals.
