Business Etiquette 101 - Dining

During a lunch interview, a networking situation, or a business dinner, the basics of dining etiquette allow you to demonstrate your professionalism. Below are the top 10 basic dining tips to help ensure you get off on the right fork, I mean foot:

  1. Arrive on time.

  2. Rise from your seat and extend your hand for a firm handshake when being introduced.

  3. Place the napkin on your lap after everyone has been seated.

  4. Learn the table setting to ensure you know which utensil to use for what.

  5. Order a moderately priced meal.

  6. Do not begin eating until everyone at the table has been served.

  7. Limit your alcohol intake.

  8. When eating soup, spoon away from you and eat from the side of the spoon.

  9. If you get up during your meal, place the napkin on your chair.

  10. After you have finished eating, place the napkin to the right of your plate.

For other dining etiquette tips, use common sense and you probably won't go wrong.
